Below you will find a detailed tuition policy. Please take the time to read through this, as it provides important information about payment, scheduling, absences, and more.
Seattle Drum School charges a monthly flat rate of $162.50 for weekly half-hour lessons and $300 for weekly hour-long lessons. This rate, when divided by 52 weeks in a year, comes out to $37.50 per half-hour and $70 per hour. If you’re interested in taking lessons on an irregular or less than weekly basis, you will be charged an alternative rate of $40 for half-hour lessons and $75 for hours. We do not charge an enrollment fee, but all lessons must be paid for AT THE TIME that they are booked – your lesson slot is not confirmed until we have received payment. If, after an irregularly scheduled or non-weekly lesson, you schedule another lesson, it must be paid for at the time it is scheduled. If you are not paying the monthly flat rate, we cannot guarantee the same lesson day/time will be available for you to book.
If, at the time you book your first lesson, you’d prefer to schedule and pay for only an introductory lesson, you may do so. However, introductory or one-off lessons are scheduled at the cost of $40 per half-hour and $75 per hour. If you decide after your first lesson that you’d like to attend weekly, payment for your first lesson will be prorated towards remaining lessons in the month, which are charged at the subdivided rate of $37.50/half-hour or $70/hour. For example, if you attend your first lesson the 2nd week of the month, pay $40, and decide to attend the 3rd and 4th week, you will be charged $72.50 for the remainder of the month ($37.50 x 3 = $112.50, $112.50 – $40 = $72.50). If you attend the 3rd week of the month, pay $40, and decide to come the 4th week, you will be charged $35 ($37.50 x 2 = $75, $75 – $40 = $35), and so on. It’s important to note that unless you schedule and pay for a month of lessons (or the remainder of the month) up front, we cannot guarantee your lesson time will be held. If you book one introductory lesson, we only hold that weekly time slot for a maximum of 24 hours after the first lesson attended. We do not offer refunds or make-ups for missed or cancelled first lessons, barring extenuating circumstances.
Payments are due by the 25th of the preceding month. Payments collected after the 5th will incur a $10 late fee, to increase by $5 each week. We offer an auto-pay service which charges your card of choice automatically on the 25th of each month for the upcoming month, for which you can enroll at the front desk.
All of our lessons are private and one-on-one. Lessons with two students are scheduled at the discretion of the administration and instructors, and will be charged time and a half.
If you are unable to attend your lesson, a family member or friend may take your lesson slot. If you need to cancel and reschedule, you are allotted a maximum of (6) re-scheduled/made-up lessons per year, with one accrued for every two months attended. The lesson must be cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice and a make-up date selected within one week of the cancelled lesson. The make-up date must be scheduled to occur within two weeks of the original cancelled lesson. If your lesson is cancelled day-of, or with less than 24 hours’ notice, we are not required to schedule a make-up lesson, regardless of the reason for cancellation. We will always try our hardest to schedule your make-up with your regular teacher, but in the event we cannot, we will schedule your make-up with another qualified instructor on our staff. If you cannot find a day to schedule a make-up, and do not accept a make-up with an alternative instructor, you will not be credited for the cancelled lesson. Business holidays (New Year’s Eve/Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve/Day) that happen to fall on your lesson day are eligible for make-ups, but will be deducted out of your (6) allotted annual make-ups.
If your teacher is absent, we will provide a qualified substitute or arrange for a make-up lesson. For cancellations made on the part of the school or the instructors, the make-up date must be selected within two weeks of the cancelled lesson, and must be scheduled within three weeks of the original cancelled lesson. If a satisfactory make-up date cannot be found, the lesson will be credited.
In the event that your teacher fails to appear on the day of the lesson, without notifying the school or the student, you will be offered a make-up lesson AND a credit for a single lesson the following month. Credits will be applied by subtracting the price of a single lesson ($37.50 or $70, depending on length). In the event that the make-up lesson cannot be rescheduled, you will still only receive one credit.
Rock Band Classes:
Our Rock Band Classes are a once-weekly, hour-long commitment. The cost is a monthly flat rate of $100 for students concurrently enrolled in private lessons, and $130 for non-private students. Each Rock Band is guaranteed a performance spot at our bi-monthly student recitals, for which there is no enrollment fee. Make-ups and credits are not provided for Rock Band cancellations on the part of the student, or in the event that a Rock Band Class falls on a holiday. If the instructor or administration cancels, each Rock Band Class participant will pay a slightly reduced rate the following month.
Seattle Drum School offers physical gift certificates for purchase in custom amounts. Gift certificates are booked at a cost of $40 for half-hour lessons and $75 for hour-long lessons. However, if you purchase a certificate for 4+ lessons (either length), you will be charged at a cost of $37.50/half-hours and $70/hours. Gift certificates expire 6 months after the date of purchase, and lessons should be used consecutively. Please call or email the school to purchase a gift certificate.
In the event that you would like to discontinue your lessons, we require 15 days’ notice. If 15 days’ notice is not provided, a termination fee of the cost of two lessons will be incurred. There is a 30-day grace period for new students – if you decide after your first month that you do not want to continue, you can be removed from the schedule with no termination fee applied. However, for new students terminating after a month, the termination fee-free withdrawal is only available if we are notified that the student will not be returning within 24 hours of their last lesson. We do not offer refunds for terminated lessons, barring extenuating circumstances.
At Seattle Drum School, we make every effort to be accommodating to students of all backgrounds. We have applications for scholarships available to be filled out – you may ask the front desk or receive an application via email. Application for a scholarship does not guarantee a reduced lesson rate. The administration is allowed 30 days to respond to a scholarship request, during which time rates will not be reduced. Scholarships are not applied retroactively.
