Weekly DPD Update
5/15/2013
Hey Friends,
Thank you for sticking with us (pun intended) as our adventure continues.
We met with the DPD and they told us that we are now a “B” classification, which means no sprinklers - a big relief. We will however require an engineering assessment. That will give us the information we need to address one of the cities requirements to bring our building up to code. This may require seismic testing, earthquake retrofitting, and we’re working to learn the other projects that may be necessary. The engineering firm told us today, “Our fee for the DPD Director’s Rule 7-2009 Report will be $3,000. Any subsequent meetings with DPD to negotiate scope of work will be billed hourly.” So at a minimum, the Drum School will be spending $3,000 for the assessment to tell us how much more money this will cost.
Many of you have been asking how to help and we’re overwhelmed by the support. We don’t know what’s going to be required yet, but we do know that we will be fundraising. For those of you who would like to volunteer/donate/help, please contact us at theseattledrumschool@gmail.com. We will definitely need support from our wonderful community, so get in touch and start shouting out ideas!
The Mayor’s Arts Awards nominations are due today, May 15th. If you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to nominate the Seattle Drum School for the “Future Focus” award (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2013-Mayors-Arts-Awards).
Thank you so much,
The Seattle Drum School

The bands will be organized by age, ability and experience. Beginners must be simultaneously enrolled in private lessons. There will be hour long weekly rehearsals (students participate during the entirety of each session) with quarterly concerts at our all-ages venue, The L.A.B. Choose Monday sessions at 6:00pm or Saturday sessions at 4:00pm.
The cost for classes is $90 per month for SDS students simultaneously enrolled in private lessons and $120 for students doing just the rehearsals. Tuition is to be paid monthly in advance and is due by the 25th of the preceding month. Students can enroll at any time with tuition prorated through the end of the month.
