Trumpeter Thomas Marriott is one of the most exciting musicians to emerge on the national jazz scene in the past decade. Solo efforts on his recent albums and in live performances with jazz luminaries such as Maynard Ferguson, Rosemary Clooney, Richie Cole, Joe Locke, Kenny Kirkland, Eric Reed, Bob Berg, The Tito Puente Orchestra, The Brian Lynch Big Band, & The Chico O'Farrill Orchestra, have gained him numerous awards and recognition throughout the music world. In 1999 he won the prestigious Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Competition sponsored by the International Trumpet Guild and the Herb Albert Foundation.
Thomas Marriott, a Seattle native, first gained national attention with the 1997 release of his first album Open Season. The album won Seattle jazz radio KPLU's top pick for that year. Earshot Jazz Magazine readers voted the quintet the Best Emerging Group of 1997, an award Thomas won again in 1998. The Marriott Jazz Quintet’s newest CD, “The High Country,” has already won critical acclaim. Earshot readers voted the quintet the Best Northwest Acoustic Band of 1999. The quintet, which is co-led by Thomas and his brother David, is active and busy in & around New York.
The New York –based trumpet player recently finished three world tours as the
featured trumpet soloist with the Maynard Ferguson Big Bop Nouveau Band.
He can be seen playing with vibist Joe Locke’s Wirewalkers, and has
recorded with Rosemary Clooney, Bob Berg & Bebo Valdez. Thomas Marriott
