Recording Workshop 4/8/2009
Hello Seattle Drum School students and parents, Our recording workshop is back! Check out the details below: Seattle Drum School's recording workshop curriculum is designed to educate students in all aspects of recording session procedures and technologies. This includes the initial preparation stages of equipment setup and pre-production, through the multi-track recording process to mixing. This program provides our students with a combination of lectures and studio experience, and it is in the studio where Recording Workshop students will spend all of their time with an emphasis on hands-on experience! Although recording and mixing music is the main activity, our students will also improve their skills in other important areas of audio engineering such as editing and live sound (mixing front of the house and monitors). No previous experience is required, however, even students with some audio engineering background will find this program challenging and very beneficial. Lecture Topics -Control Room Signal Flow -Microphones and Direct Boxes -Cables and Connectors -Analog and Digital Concepts (consoles and recorders) -Equalizers and Filters -Compressors, Limiters, and Expanders -Reverbs, Delays, and other Time-based Effects -Monitors and Amplifiers -Pro Tools -Recording Drums and Percussion -Recording Guitars, Bass, and Amplifiers -Recording Pianos and Electronic Keyboards -Recording and Producing Vocals -Mixing a Song -Building and Equipping a Project Studio -Doing Live Sound in Clubs/Small Venues Every Wednesday 8:00 PM – 10:30 PM in the L.A.B. The Spirit of West Africa fundraiser3/29/2009
The evening will feature performances by Kane Mathis (kora) and Thione Diop and Yeke Yeke. There will be African food served at 7 pm. This is a free event but contributions to the Spirit of West Africa festival are welcome! 6:30-9:30.

Two New Classes!!2/21/2009
Introduction to Improvisation - 10:30 to 11:45am. Course covers basic theory and practice for learning to improvise over chord structures. Geared towards the intermediate player who wants to develop as a soloist. $175/6 weeks. Beginning Composition for the Young Musician - 12:00 to 1:15pm. This class is geared towards the intermediate musician who wants to make composition a part of their musical life. $175/6 weeks. Taught by Wayne Horvitz at our Georgetown location. Every Saturday, February 21st through March 28th.

Special Concert!1/31/2009
Your invited to an evening of music with Dawn Clement (piano/vocals), SDS instructors: Kristy Smith (guitars/vocals) Geoff Harper (upright bass), and Steve Smith (drums). It's the 2009 kick-off performance of "Geoff Harper's Endeavor" (music series happening the last Saturday of every month). When: Saturday, January 31st @ 7:30 Cost:$10, kids 12 under, free. Toddler Percussion Lab1/14/2009
Dear Parents and Students, We are starting the Toddler Percussion Lab on January 14th at 10 AM. SDS invites children from 6 months to 3 years to the world of music. In each session children sing, play finger games, do dances and play rhythm instruments designed for little hands. Class is taught by Tim Miller, runs eight weeks, and costs $110. Flamenco Guitar Master Class11/23/2008
A rare US visit by Jaco Abel. Sunday, November 23rd @ 3pm. Through years of passionate exploration, studying closely with the legendary Pepe Habichuela and through collaborations with many of Spain's Flamenco Greats, Jaco has developed a style and sound that places flamenco authentically in a new light, innovating the union of electric guitar with traditional Flamenco. RECIPE FOR A GREAT NIGHT OF MUSIC! Ingredients: Dawn Clement (piano, rhodes, vocals) Kristy K. Smith (guitar, vocals, ukelele) Steve Smith (drumset) Geoff Harper (upright bass) Directions: Mix first two ingredients for approx. one hour. Let rest for twenty minutes. Add remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly for one more hour Serve chilled. Cost $10. Kids 12 & under, free. Time: 7:30 at night.
