A drummer since the mid 1980s, Andy Sells grew up on hip hop, punk rock, and everything in between. He has performed with musicians such as trumpeter Graham Haynes,
violinist Eyvind Kang, NY bassist Shazad Ismaily, organist Joe Doria, saxophonist Marc Fendel, drummer John Wicks, electronic musician Plastiq Phantom , vocalist Reggie Watts, saxophonist Skerik, Issac Brock (Modest Mouse) , and many more. Andy spends much of his time working with his group FCS North , which includes himself on drums, electronics, etc., DJ Mune Yamakawa, and Joshua Warren on bass, samples, etc. He co-runs a record label Mass Mvmnt with electronic musician Scientific American and the members of FCS North . Andy can also be seen DJing at clubs around Seattle as AMS, mixing and scratching records as if he's playing the drums.
Andy enjoys working with students and finds teaching to be a learning experience. His thoughts are that, “Music, like the rest of life, is an ongoing process. There is always more to learn. I would like to share my knowledge and experience, while continuing to grow as a musician. I hope to help students develop the skills necessary to create and perform great music by focusing on technique, reading, and listening."
Andy has studied with jazz drummer Brian Kirk (Lou Donaldson, Pointer
Sisters, etc.), Doug Spencer, and the late Lynn Davis.
